Middle School Art Exhibition

The 2017 DCPS Middle School Art Exhibition is on display and will run until April 28 at the Florida State College at Jacksonville Kent Campus. Approximately 180 pieces of artwork from middle school students around the district will be on display. Some of the pieces even earned national and/or international honors! 

The exhibition is FREE.

Essay Contest

   We would like to invite Mandarin Middle School students to participate in the Sixth Annual Jacksonville Wi$e Money Week Kids Essay Contest.

Two students (one boy, one girl) will be named this year's Wi$e Money Kids and each winner will receive a $1,000 kids college savings account provided by SunTrust Bank.

This contest is  open to  Middle School students who  submit an essay answering the 2017 Question highlighting the importance of being Wi$e about Money.

The goal of Wi$e Money Week is to teach you how to properly manage your money. Part of being a productive citizen in the 21st century involves being financially responsible. When we are not financially responsible it affects everyone around us in one way or another.

The 2017 Question is:

Think about a time when you, or someone you know was NOT financially responsible and made a bad financial decision. If you could go back and change your decision or give someone advice, what would you say in order to turn the poor financial decision into a smart, responsible one?

2017 Reading Extravaganza

The 2017 Reading Extravaganza is coming up on Saturday, May 13! Students will receive recognition for their reading achievements, including their reading medals. In order to be recognized, students must meet the Annual Reading Expectation by Grade Level. A Certificate of Achievement will be sent to each DCPS school to distribute to each student who meets the reading expectations before the Reading Extravaganza.

Anne Frank: A History for Today

“Anne Frank: A History for Today” And “Voices of Hope Initiative”

The “Anne Frank: A History for Today” exhibit runs through Sunday, February 12 at the Museum of Science and History. The exhibit is part of a community-wide “Voices of Hope Initiative” that promotes productive discussion addressing prejudice and discrimination during the Holocaust and today. Most events relating to the “Voices of Hope Initiative” – including the Anne Frank exhibit – are FREE.

Dream Day Parade

Cheer on 50 brave dreamers as part of the Dreams Come True Foundation’s Dream Day Dreamer Parade on Saturday, June 11 at 10 a.m.! 

The parade starts at PRI Productions (1819 Kings Avenue, Jacksonville 32207) and makes it way to the Duval County Public Schools Administration Building.

 Student groups from Lee and First Coast High Schools will be marching in the parade.

2016 Reading Extravaganza

2016 Reading Extravaganza Celebrate literacy at Hemming Park on Saturday, May 14 from 9 a.m. – noon  for the 2016 Reading Extravaganza! Students will be recognized for the  efforts they made toward reading as well as pick-up their reading medals  and have the opportunity to swap books. Local celebrities will be on-hand  for story time sessions, where they select a book to read out loud to audiences.  Additionally, there will be vendors, a food truck, entertainment and more!  Reading certificates will be distributed to schools soon.

The Middle School Art Exhibition opens April 14 and will run until April 28 at the Florida State College of Jacksonville Kent Campus Art Gallery (Building E-112A). This district-wide show features over 120 pieces of individual and collaborative work from student artists. An opening reception will be held from 5 – 7 p.m. April 14.

Living History Weekend

Experience what it was like living in Jacksonville in 1864 on Saturday, April 16 and Sunday, April 17 with Living History Weekend at Camp Milton Historic Preserve! The two-day event includes scripted scenarios; first-hand reenactments of skirmishes, raids, battles, and civilian town life; and many more historical activities. Admission is FREE both days.

“Mathematics, Economics and Money Program”

Saturday, March 12 from 9 a.m. – 3 p.m. 

The FREE event is open to girls ages 6-14 years old. The expo will include money literacy stations, business start-ups, savings accounts giveaways, a fashion show, business etiquette and much more!

Career Academy Showcase and Car Show

Frank H. Peterson Academies of Technology will host their annual Career Academy Showcase and Car Show on Saturday, February 13 from 10 a.m. - 2 p.m.

 The community event includes a car show, an art show, silent auction, petting zoo, robotics competition, military helicopter landing, concessions and so much more!

  Parents of all eighth graders may tour all the academies of interest and get signatures for their applications.

Upcoming Boundary/School Program Community Meetings

As part of the working group process, Duval County Public Schools' Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti and members of the Duval County School Board invite all parents and interested stakeholders to attend community meetings to discuss school boundary and programming recommendations.

 These meetings are open to the public. 

The next meeting is Monday, January 25 at Lakeshore Middle School at 6 p.m.

One by One Convention

Attention Middle and High School Students!!

The Jacksonville Public Education Fund is looking for more middle and high school students to be delegates at its fourth annual ONE by ONE Convention on January 23.  

The Convention runs from 9 a.m.-3 p.m., at the Lexington Hotel and Conference Center located at 1515 Prudential Drive. Students will sit with community members and be part the discussion of important public education topics. For more information, click here.
