“Finding Help, Finding Hope” Essay Contest

“Finding Help, Finding Hope” Essay Contest

Middle and high school students are invited to participate in the “Finding Help, Finding Hope” Essay Contest as an opportunity for youth to celebrate mental health and social and emotional well-being. The essay contest will provide a glimpse into youth perspectives about mental health and solutions in addressing mental health stigma and disparities. 

Middle school students should limit their essays to 250 words, while high school students have a 500-word limit.

Upcoming Boundary/School Program Community Meetings

As part of the working group process, Duval County Public Schools' Superintendent Dr. Nikolai Vitti and members of the Duval County School Board invite all parents and interested stakeholders to attend community meetings to discuss school boundary and programming recommendations.

 These meetings are open to the public. 

The next meeting is Monday, January 25 at Lakeshore Middle School at 6 p.m.

The Parent Academy of Duval County Public Schools is offering a FREE course, “Resolving Conflict: How to Communicate with Your Child Like a CHAMP”, at Bonefish Grill on November 9, 2015.     **New** College Bound – Transitioning to College: What Are the Support Services for Students with Disabilities?

November 2, 5:00P.M. -6:30 P.M., Speaker: Denise Giarrusso, Associate Director of Student Engagement, FSCJ – Deerwood Center. This presentation will review the process for students who are transitioning from high school to college. We will review Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the ADA and the ADAA as they relate to the responsibilities of the student and the college.  We will discuss the types of academic and support services available to the student who self-identifies their disability to the college and review the various program and degree options  and extracurricular activities offered at the college.
